About the Library
The Ohio County Public Library was established in 1915 through provisions of public library laws. Originally, it was open to the residents of Rising Sun and Randolph Township alone. It has since grown to embrace all residents of Ohio County.
The Library's original building sits at the corner of High and Main Streets. It was built in 1916, giving many years of service to its loving residents. It currently houses local genealogy and history, microfilmed newspapers and vintage books. It is opened limited hours. The much-needed main building was opened in 2007. It sits on Second and Henrietta Streets, near Rising Sun High School. The bulk of the collection is found at the main building, as are reference materials, audio books, movies, computers and internet access. The main building is open nearly 50 hours each week.
